The following is an outline of how to increase your performance as an athlete by optimizing the body’s own abilities naturally using some simple guidelines regarding diet and supplements. Most of the supplements discussed are from HTN.
Diet:
Eliminate the following *:
*White flour: It is extremely acidic, has no nutritional value and your body turns it into sugar and then fat.
*Refined Sugar: It is very acidic, has no nutritional value and your body turns it into fat.
*Carbonated beverages, especially soda! To learn just how incredibly detrimental soda is, please read: Alkalize With Coral Calcium
Cola is the worst of the bunch, and if you’re drinking diet sodas, you’re ingesting *Aspartame, which turns into formaldehyde in your body – a well-known toxin which is extremely difficult for the body to break down.
* Hydrogenated (and partially hydrogenated) oils (i.e. shortening, etc)
The above-mentioned substances can cut down your performance by 40%! They will increase your recovery time back to competitive levels from a few hours to 2-3 days.
The amount of specific foods, such as meats etc, is not as important as how you combine them. For instance, don’t eat proteins with fruits or melons. Proteins are difficult to digest, whereas fruits and melons are easy. Combining them results in neither one of them getting digested properly and the undigested foods ending up in the intestine. Not only does this undigested food translate into an extra ~20 pounds of weight as well as lessen the body’s ability to absorb vital nutrients, but even worse, it inhibits the body from getting rid of metabolic waste build-up.
Fruits should be eaten separately at least 15 minutes before Proteins or other Carbs. They get processed quickly and are then ready for use in the system.
All veggies should be slightly steamed or raw. They should be a substantial part of your diet. You can combine them with complex carbs, such as whole grains, whole oats etc, or with proteins, such as meat, dairy* and beans.
*Make sure these are dairy products without carbs, such as butter, cream, cheese, sour cream and crème fraiche. Dairy products with carbs include low-fat milk and yogurt, whole milk and yogurt, as well as nonfat milk, yogurt and cheese.
Oxygen and Water:
The body needs huge amounts of oxygen for most efficient energy creation from glucose and fat, and for the removal of waste from cells. When the body is alkaline, it can absorb and utilize more oxygen. Our bodies are acidic by function, which means the harder you work out, the more acid your body will become, which in turn makes alkalinizing your body even more important. For more details on Alkalinity, pls read: Alkalize With Coral Calcium
When you don’t have enough oxygen in your body, you will go from aerobic to anaerobic (without oxygen) energy production. It will drop to less than 1/18 of the aerobic version! Anaerobic energy production is not only inefficient, but it produces lots of “nasty” waste products, such as lactic acid, which contributes to “the burn”. This burn is worse for you than just the pain of sore muscles; it signals the tear down of those muscles. Although many believe that muscle must be torn down to be build, this is absolutely not so and the replacement of the torn down muscle often actually ends up being scar tissue, not more muscle.
Pain is your friend, because it signals when you’re about to cross the line from healthy stress on a muscle to increase its size, to the unhealthy teardown of the same. Our muscles are actually already strong enough to lift a car, but it is the pain that prevents us from including car chucking into our routine workouts.
The fastest and best way to alkalinize the body is by drinking HTN’s ionic Coral Calcium, which has over 70 minerals. Ionic means that the minerals (which also function as electrolytes) exist in a “free” state unbound to other minerals or ligands (binding agents) and can be instantly absorbed by the body. This is different than in drinks like Gatorade, which have elemental electrolytes (mineral salts) and must go through the digestive system to before the body can utilize them.
It is most crucial to properly and thoroughly hydrate the body during your workouts and competition. When working out/competing, drink an 8oz glass of distilled water that has had one bag of HTN’s Coral Calcium sit in it for at least 5 minutes and then consume over the next 15-20 minutes before beginning the competition/work out. For every hour of competition/work out, you should be drinking at least 2 liters of HTN’s Coral Calcium water. (Use a fresh bag for 1.5 liters of distilled water. Do not combine used and fresh bags, only used with used and fresh w/ fresh to prevent deionization.)
You are made of 70% water, and only water – not sports drinks – can replace water!
Digestion:
One of the basic needs of the body is to properly be able to (disintegrate, dissolve and absorb) all the nutrients it needs so that the amino acids, glucose and lipids needed for cell growth – especially muscle cell growth – are available. To get these nutrients naturally from the foods we eat, you need the proper digestive enzymes, and corresponding co-enzymes (seeing as enzymes don’t work without them).
HTN’s Assimilator is an excellent product which combines the enzymes you need with the corresponding materials to manufacture co-enzymes that activate the enzymes, thus sparing the body the search for the co-enzymes, which may or may not be present in the body.
HTN’s Assimilator not only helps with food digestion, but also with breaking down scar tissue and keeping the artery walls nice and smooth, making it difficult for plaque to build up, which means that the heart doesn’t have to work as hard. It’s a very important part of your immune system because it destroys bacteria and viruses. It also breaks down crystals, such as cholesterol and uric acid – which contribute to diseases like Fibromyalgia and gout - in your blood! (You can actually witness the shattering of these crystals in a live blood analysis.)
As you can see, extra digestive enzymes are very important for the body. Depending on how well you eat, as in how tough it will be for the body to break down, take 1-3 capsules with your meal, and 1-2 between meals or at bedtime to help with the “maintenance” work. You can’t take too many.
Supplementation:
Once you make sure your body is getting and absorbing the best basics; water, oxygen and food, then you can start to look at other factors to further bring the body into balance and provide the building blocks so that it can create muscle mass and maintain energy at a higher level. By maintaining energy at a higher level with oxygen present, you will greatly reduce lactic acid build up during performance and competition, which is going to lessen your recovery time tremendously.
HTN’s Endura-Max:
Your metabolism can be increased very nicely if you are taking supplements containing chromium polynicotinate, which increases the availability of glucose for the cell.
HTN’s Endura-Max contains chromium polynicotinate and is very effective for increasing the metabolism. It also contains other ingredients, which significantly reduce sugar cravings as well as help develop lean muscle mass by using the fat found in between the muscle tissue. So not only does it help build lean muscle, but the above-mentioned fat is easily available to be used with glucose for energy consumption and release.
Take 1-2 in the morning and 2 in the evening, or while you’re working out; 1 in the morning, 2 while you’re working out, and 1 in the evening. More in this case isn’t better.
CoQ10:
Taking CoQ10 is like sending your circulatory system to a reconditioning shop. It’s extremely important for the heart! CoQ10 is a metabolic Co-enzyme, essential to muscle growth. The more you put muscles under stress, the more they want to grow, and the more you’ll need all the components needed for growth.
Take 100 mg (soft gel only) on an empty stomach 30-60 minutes before workout.
Vitamin E:
Vitamin E, is needed for Zinc to work, which maintains a lot of testosterone, without which muscles strength or mass cannot form. People who take steroids, which is a false or synthetic testosterone will actually create the opposite of the desired effect, because not only will the testis shut down as they think no more testosterone is needed, which results in infertility, but meanwhile the false testosterone, which cannot be used by the body, will start to break down the muscle fiber.
Take 400 I.U. daily.
Vitamin B Complex:
Take a good vitamin B complex with extra B6 and B12. B12 can be tough to absorb if you don’t have other supportive nutrients. The sublingual form is best. The B complex is necessary for the hemoglobin production in the red blood cells. Hemoglobin attaches oxygen to itself and then the red blood cell, which the hemoglobin is part of, carries the oxygen throughout the body to other cells. Remember that alkalinity = oxygen = health.
Take according to directions on container.
Potassium:
Take Potassium Citrate or Ionic Colloidal Potassium.
Potassium is needed for muscle relaxation.
Take at least 2000mg daily.
Magnesium:
Use Magnesium Chelate, Magnesium (Citrate, malate, or lactate, etc.) or Ionic Colloidal Magnesium. No, there isn’t enough of this type of Magnesium in HTN’s Coral Calcium pouches for athletes. Magnesium is crucial for muscle contraction as well as nerve impulses. It runs over 300 functions of the body!
Take at least 1000mg daily.
Sodium and Chloride:
If you use natural sea salt with food, you probably get enough of both sodium and chloride. Do not use refined salt as the chloride and sodium have been bound very tightly together, especially if iodine has been used. Because this type of salt has been bound so tightly together, and the body has a tough time separating the components, it’s a toxin, which draws fluid to it in an effort to dilute its effect, which can result in water retention and edema.
In sea salt, the components are loosely bound and easy to separate.
Sodium is used in many different body functions together with Magnesium, Potassium and Calcium.
Chloride is used to produce Hydrochloric Acid for digestion. Athletes who work out a lot tend to loose a lot of hydrogen and chloride. When you don’t have enough hydrochloric acid to break down your foods, then the digestive enzymes are over taxed, which puts tremendous strain on the pancreas, which can become inflamed, which would reduce insulin production, thus reducing the glucose uptake into the cell, resulting in lack of energy.
Some important thoughts:
It is imperative to consider the overall effect of what you are doing. Nothing works in a vacuum. For instance, if you take as much creatine as is available in most commercial muscle powders, yes it will increase the size of your muscles, but it will also mess up the creatine-phosphate energy production pattern, thus reducing the strength of the muscle.
In whatever you do, remember to support the support system, because if you don’t, you easily run the risk of over taxing your system, creating a chain reaction of adverse effect.
I’ve written to you about how a competing athlete can maximize their body’s performance. If you don’t happen to be training for the Olympics but are interested in increasing your body’s performance, then of course gauge your application according to the desired result.
Supporting the body as a whole is sooooo vital and can do so much for an average athlete, such as myself. I basically take the Attack Pak from HTN, which consists of the Coral Calcium Gold, Assimilator, Optiberry, SBOs, Omega 3/70, Ellagic Acid, and C&P Max. Here’s a story that really brings this point home.
I like biking and other summer time activities outdoors. Because I live in Montreal Canada, I’m fairly inactive over ½ of the year during winter. I love playing tennis with my father, who lives in Florida. Last week he was here visiting, and I got to play for almost 3 hours straight after not having played tennis in almost 4 months or really doing any other form of exercise either. In the pre-HTN days, this type of activity used to cause me to be in severe pain for several days after, especially when it came to negotiating stairs downward! Ouch! Well no more. I had no pain what so ever – not even on the second day! I could barely feel that I had indeed exercised, but had to focus on it as opposed to feeling crippled by it, and I didn’t even have Endura-Max!!!
