ALS and Complicated Cysts - Bonnie's Story

Do you or someone you know have ALS? My name is Bonnie and I will share my story with you of my encounter with this disease. I am a member of a family of sixteen children of which I am the youngest. When I was nine years old my father started to display symptoms of this disease. It started in his hands and then worked its way through his body leaving him paralyzed and unable to communicate. He died in 1969.

In 1996 one of my eight brothers – Frances - was diagnosed with a branch of LouGerigs disease and told my father had had the trunk or actual disease itself. My brother’s started with his voice and has progressed very slowly to where he is now eight years into this disease. The doctors told him there is no known cure for ALS and that he could live up to fifteen years with it. They sent him home to wait to die. At this stage he is unable to talk, and can only walk with a walker. He has also been diagnosed with diabetes, a heart condition and padgents disease. He had a huge kidney stone for four years which the doctors told him would not bother him and never treated so he had terrible pain in his back up until a few months ago.

I was a child when my father got sick. After he died and as I got older, many times I felt regret that there had been nothing I could have done for him. When I got the news that my brother now had the same disease but will live longer with it, my heart was broken. I have been searching for ways to help him ever since but was never able to do much as I live in Ontario and my brother lives in Newfoundland. He has been traveling to London Ontario to University Hospital hoping beyond hope that the doctors will tell him something different, even just do something to stop the pain in his back but they never did until……More about that later.

In 1996 I went to Newfoundland to do a job for the government with the Human Resources Department. While I was there I got a real bad stomach problem. I couldn’t eat anything without filling up with gas and getting pain in my stomach. I went to emergency many times, had every kind of a test they could think of but they could not figure out what was wrong. I went to visit my sister who had been using alternative medicine and seeing Homeopathic Doctors to treat her arthritis and lupus for years (they have kept her out of a wheelchair). She made an appointment for me with her doctor. I went to her and she gave me a product called Silvermax and told me I had a bacterial infection. I took the Silvermax and felt better the very next day and have not had a problem with my stomach since. When I returned to her I thanked her and told her I felt like someone pulled me out of hell and plunked me into heaven. Anyway, she gave me a bunch of flyers for things I could order from a company named HTN and Silvermax was one of the products. I used up the bottle I bought from her over a few months and I kept the flyers but never looked at them again, they have been in a box in my basement for eight years.

My brother came to London again in October 2003 to see the doctors at University Hospital. They put him through all the same test for the fourth time in eight years. Nothing new except they told him he now has padgents disease and it is treatable. He was told he needed to see a kidney doctor, not that there was anything wrong with his kidneys but this kidney doctor treated padgents. Can you believe that!!!!

During the year 2002 I had a problem with my breast. It started when I was 26 years old and at that time the doctors told me it was nothing and to just leave it alone. I knew it was there and it wasn’t painful or anything so I never bothered about it. In the summer of 2002 I suddenly started experiencing severe pain in my left breast that extended into my neck, down my arm to my fingertips and down my side. I went to emergency where they did x-rays and said they did not see anything wrong and sent me home. I started taking Advil for the pain and got some short term relief but the pain never really went away. I went to my family doctor and he sent me for an ultrasound. He told me I had what they call complicated cysts, no treatment and that it was unusual that they were painful. I continued to take the Advil until I couldn’t stand it anymore and then went back to the doctor after eight months and asked him if they would removing my breast under the circumstances. He said they may consider it and made an appointment for me with a surgeon. In the mean time a friend of mine called me and told me about Coral Calcium. I was so tormented at the time I really didn’t pay much attention. When the time came for me to go to the surgeon I changed my mind and decided to try the Coral Calcium. I have been taking it for over a year; the lumps have dissolved and the pain is gone.

The flem that usually causes choking is gone. His legs were drawn together at the knees and he could not straighten out one leg. After two weeks taking the supplements he walked around the house balancing himself against the walls, able to part his legs and put both feet flat on the floor.
